Blogo Tour: Random Acts of Marriage - Boone Brux
About the Book:
A wedding. A playboy. And a week he’ll make sure she never forgets.
Kinni Corbet is the perfect bridesmaid. She’s efficient and has a to-do list for every occasion. When the bride-to-be adds “relax and have some fun” to Kinni’s schedule, Price Lyons seems to tick all the right boxes. He’s guaranteed fun, and it’s only for one week—what can it hurt?
Playboy hotel owner Price Lyons has wanted to break down Kinni’s walls for years. Her plan to relax for a whole week is the perfect opportunity to get to the one person he’s never been able to charm. And this time, she seems…receptive to his advances. Unexpected, but he’ll take it.
There’s just one problem. Kinni’s allergic to spontaneity, and the only thing predictable about Price is his unpredictably. There’s no way they’ll last beyond the week, and Kinni’s going to make sure of it…

I read the blurb and I'll admit that I
wanted to love this book. And if I am to be honest, it does rate
pretty high on my list of books for the summer. First I'll start by
admitting that although this is the second book in the Wedding Favors
series, I have not read the previous book. However, it doesn't seem
to have made a difference as this is truly a standalone novel.
The entire story takes place during the
week leading up to their friends' wedding. Kinni and Price are barely
friends who have known each other for nine years. She thinks he's a
rich, spoiled playboy who doesn't take anything serious, while he
thinks she's too rigid and needs to loosen up and learn to have fun.
It's a classic story of opposites attract. Or at least it would be if
there was any mutual chemistry going on between the characters. Sadly
for the first half of the book we are treated to Price putting in
110% in to getting to know Kinni and getting her to loosen up, while
we see Kinni being so rigid that a strong wind could break her. Even
her attempts at loosening up to have fun come across as forced.
Luckily, near the start of the second half of the book we see a
different side of Kinni. She actually begins to show a personality
that is not all robotic.
Please do not get me wrong, I loved the
concept of the story, the interactions of the many characters. It was
just Kinni that I seemed to have trouble connecting with.
Unfortunately it's not until the very end that we finally see what
makes Kinni tick. By this point I've reached the eye rolling every
time she opens her mouth stage. I might actually have understood her
and enjoyed her character more if I had any insight to what caused
her to be as structured and intractable as she is. Price on the other
hand was especially sweet. Far from coming across as the spoiled
playboy Kinni, in her judgmental mind, has made him out to be, Price
is sweet, thoughtful, and playful.
Overall, regardless of the very stilted
heroine, I have to admit that I found myself enjoying the
interactions between Price and Kinni. The author allowed the sexual
tension to slowly build as opposed to rushing the physical aspects of
their relationship. That allowed for their pseudo friendship to
slowly bloom in to something more. Having never read this author
before, I have to admit that I was impressed with the flow of the
story and I would definitely read more by her in the future.
