Author Interview: Elodie Parkes

Today I'd like to introduce you all to an author that is completely new to me, but I hope to change that in the future. Elodie Parkes is a mutli-published author who writes erotic MM Suspense. Sounds juicey, doesn't it? Well, without further ado, I give you Elodie Parkes.

1. What inspires your stories?
People and emotions often inspire my stories and other things such as doorways, buildings, scenery. I’ve been inspired by an old signpost, a paddock full of horses, and even a key. I’m one of those people who just see something and suddenly a story drops into my head, complete with characters and setting. It’s so exciting when it happens.

My new release with Encompass Ink, Heart in Chains was inspired by meeting a small group of guys when a gay work colleague asked me to join them for a drink.

A guy at work ‘came out’ to me after I saw him meeting his boyfriend after work. Of course, I took no notice at all, as I’ve known several LBGT people and so what, but somehow he felt he had to bring me into his ‘secret.’ He invited me to have drinks with his boyfriend and the small group of gay guys they were going to hang out with.

Now I don’t get many invitations, (smiles), what with my day job and trying to find time to write I’ve just about given up on a social life, (sad but true,) so, I accepted the invitation.
The group was made up of three other gay couples and my work colleague with his guy.

These guys were outstandingly dishy, well-groomed, beautiful men, and without exception, they treated their lover like treasure. The tenderness and loving behavior between them struck me. I can honestly say I haven’t seen it in the heterosexual couples I know. For the most part, they seem to have abandoned tenderness in favor of games, control, or even enmity.

It’s not that I didn’t expect the gay guys to be loving toward their partners, it’s just that it was so lovely to see, so evident, that it contrasted hugely with the male female stuff going on around me. I watched and it warmed my heart.

2. Will you be attending any conferences or signings this year? If yes, which ones? Where and when?
Unfortunately not. Loads of the ones that would be great to attend are held in the USA and being in Britain it’s not easy to afford the trip. Also I do have to work to eat and pay the rent (smiles) and I’m in a job that doesn’t give paid vacation days.

3. What is your writing schedule like?
I don’t have a schedule. I run at my computer and write whenever I can (LOL) Sometimes work is so punishing I don’t get to write for a time and then I start being depressed and desperate to write.

4. Do you have any other passions besides writing? If yes, what are they? Why?
I love the countryside, the coast, music, trees, art, so I love to love to grow things and have lots of smaller trees in massive pots. I always choose to live in a semi-rural area so that I’m close to woodlands. I’m always singing, (smiles) and have music playing in my car all the time. I sing around work, for instance if I’m traveling for work, or in the antiques warehouse or restoration area. I try not to bug people, but my nickname there is melodyelodie. Recently one of the guys who help with the heavy lifting and helping with the van started singing along as we traveled. He’s great, knows all the words to most of the songs on my Jeep hard drive and we had a great time.

5. What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
French fries.

6. Do you have a favorite place to write? Where is it? And what makes it your favorite place to write?
I write in a room with a huge window that overlooks farmland and extensive woodland. It’s gorgeous. The changing colors and vegetation are so pretty. In the night at various times of the year I can hear owls hooting. It’s great.

7. Did you always know you wanted to be an author?
I’ve always written something. I can’t remember ever saying okay I will be an author. I just write and one day decided to submit work to a publisher.

8. Please tell us about your most recent release and where we can purchase it.
Heart in Chains is my most recent release.
Blurb:
When Connor Douglas takes a tropical island holiday, he hopes to leave heartbreak behind. Little does he know the extent of the danger and sexual temptation that awaits him.
Long after Jay Levesque has closed down his operations on the very same tropical island, the memory of Connor haunts him.
Warm nights and scorching sex has someone’s heart in chains.
Erotic MM romantic suspense
It’s available on Amazon and was published April 23.
Read a teaser:
The door opened.

Connor looked up. Jay stood there carrying a tray. He stepped in and kicked the door closed behind him. He strode to the table and put down the tray.

Connor watched stunned as Jay approached with a smile.
“I’m sorry, Connor. You see, you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s necessary for you to be our guest for a short time.” He stood before Connor in a pair of faded jeans, bare foot, and bare chested, his muscular torso on display.

Connor sighed inwardly. Despite his situation, he couldn’t help gazing at the delicious man.
Jay bent and unlocked the handcuffs. He slipped them into his back pocket.
“That’s not good, Connor. Have you been trying to get them off?” He took Connor’s wrists in his hands one by one, and caressed the livid bracelets left on Connor’s skin.

The effect on Connor was immediate and unwelcome. His stomach clenched as he enjoyed the stroking along the inside of his wrists. In the back of his mind, he railed against himself. Don’t enjoy his touch you fool.

About Elodie:
I’m a writer who is in love with happy endings, currently based in southern UK.
I love: music, art, flowers, trees, the ocean. I work with antiques by day and words by night. Like a vampire, darkness is my friend, that’s when the silence is only broken by an occasional hoot of owls in the woodlands opposite my home, and I write.
